- VicSmart planning permits cover one or more of the following types of proposals: some minor subdivision, minor buildings and works, outbuildings and sheds, tree removal and lopping, small advertising signs, some extensions, minor activities in Heritage zones, and minor car parking dispensations.
- They are not new types of permits. They are a select number of existing “straight forward” permits, which commonly exclude the need for notice (advertising and objections) or referrals.
- They are usually submitted by developers, builders, designers, businesses and individuals rather than Town Planners.
- In 2022, there were 9,698 VicSmart permit applications, of which 75% were assessed by councils within the 10 statutory day period.
