How to display a sign in a commercial, industrial or special purpose zone

To do your own town planning permit application to display a sign in any industrial or commercial zone, the Capital City zone and Docklands zone as a VicSmart application, the first step is to check if your application is eligible for the VicSmart process. This will ensure that your application meets the following criteria:

  1. The sign is not within 30 metres of land (not a road) which is in a residential zone
  2. The sign is not a pole sign, sky sign, reflective sign, internally illuminated, floodlit, electronic or animated; and
  3. The total display size of the sign does not exceed 10 square metres
  4. The land is in one of the following zones:
    • Any industrial zone
    • Any commercial zone
    • Capital City Zone
    • Docklands Zone
  5. Does not trigger a permit under another part of the planning scheme
