The State government’s free planning property report, used to find the planning zones and overlays, also identifies the local council and has links to the relevant planning scheme.

The local council is also known as the local government, and for planning purposes, they are also called the Responsible Authority. As the Responsible Authority, they have the power to specify when a planning permit is required, assess planning applications and determine if they are worthy of a permit, or under what conditions a planning permit can be issued.
