For properties in residential zones, a maximum fence height is often set in the schedule to the zone. Check the Schedule to the zone to see if the maximum height is set there. If is not, the maximum fence height is set in Clause 54.06-2 Front fences objective and Standard A20, which is partially set out in the table below:

The height of neighbouring fences can also play a factor. Providing a survey ( with photos and addresses) of neighbouring property fence heights in line with what you are proposing, is a good way to support a planning application for a fence height that differs from what’s required by the planning scheme.
